A new group of veterans with combat experience has been formed in Vernon County. Known as the Vernon County Combat Veterans, it meets monthly on the second Tuesday of every month at the Viking Inn (party room) in Viroqua at 6 p.m.
The group was formed by Vietnam USMC veteran Mick Lyons, a member of the Westby VFW Post and Vernon County Service Officer Jim Young. It is intended to be a "rap session" for vets to talk about their intense combat experiences and work out the emotions associated with those experiences.
Whether you have PTSD, don't have PTSD, can't sleep at night, or sleep like a baby, you are welcome to come share your memories. Perhaps you can help another "brother" make the final adjustment and "come home" after all these years—that alone would make it worth while attending.
Perhaps you are just looking for a place to talk about those things that you can't talk about with your family or "regular" people who wouldn't understand. In any case, you are always welcome—bring your "battle buddy" if you have one. No dues, no membership cards, no uniforms, no commitment other than to help fellow veterans.
For more information, call Mick at 675-3898 or Jim Young at 637-5274.
