The Vernon County Sheriff’s Department reported a single vehicle accident over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The accident occurred on Sunday, May 25 at approximately 12:25 p.m. two miles north of Westby, in the township of Christiana.
The accident occurred when 29-year-old, Caitlin W. Schlesner of Cedar Park, TX, lost control of the automobile she was operating on a northbound curve on State Highway 27. The vehicle then crossed the centerline, left the roadway, struck mailboxes and overturned across a driveway, landing on its wheels down a small embankment.
Passengers in the Schlesner vehicle were the driver’s husband, Joshua M. Schlesner, age 28, and their 17-month-old, daughter, all of Cedar Park, TX. All three occupants were transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare, in Viroqua, by Tri-State Ambulance. All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were later treated and released from the hospital.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Westby and Cashton First Responders, the Westby-Christiana Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department.
