Rain began tapering off in Viroqua late Thursday afternoon and no additional flooding was reported in Vernon County.

Linda Nederlo, the public information officer at the Vernon County Emergency Operations Center, said that no additional flooding was caused by Tuesday’s rain.

“We’re supposed to have partial sunshine tomorrow and then five or six days of good weather,” Nederlo said. “We know things can change fast and we’ll be keeping an eye on that.”

Nederlo said that inspectors from the Federal Emergency Management Agency had compiled information on the county’s flood damage and were leaving to go to their regional office in Madison and compile information with other inspectors.

It is not known when President George W. Bush will make a determination if Vernon County and other Wisconsin counties impacted by flooding will be eligible for federal disaster relief. Bush was in Italy on Thursday.

The White House sent the Broadcaster a fax that had a statement from Bush, which he made while visiting with the Prime Minister of Italy. Bush said, “It’s really a tough time for people in the Midwestern part of the United States. They’ll have the prayers of the American people, and we’ll help them recover.”

" Bush doesn't give a damn (no pun intended) about Vernon County. We are too busy spending BILLIONS in Iraq and the myriad other "foreign entaglements" our forefathers warned us against. If we had 1/100th of the money we funnel to Israel every year we could fix every dam, road and home devastated by the recent storms.
I hope the good people of Vernon County don't wait for our unconstitutional, bloated federal government to come to the rescue. "
