Vernon County Fairest of the Fair contest entry deadline is July 8

Plans are underway for the Vernon County Fairest of the Fair Contest.

Entry blanks and official rules are available at the UW-Extension office, 637-5276. Entry deadline is July 8. A contestant must be 18 years of age by Jan. 1, 2009, and have been a resident of the state of Wisconsin for at least a year. They must be a resident of Vernon County or the majority of their fair activities take place in Vernon County.

Besides serving as official hostess for the Vernon County Fair, Sept. 11-14, the Fairest of the Fair chosen represents Vernon County in the state Fairest of the Fair contest held in January of 2009. The candidate chosen for the state Fairest of the Fair may be a part of the public relations staff for Wisconsin State Fair.

Contestant must have a sponsor for the contest. Any business, youth or civic organization may sponsor a candidate. Sponsor fee is $30.

The contest will be held on Saturday, July 26. The coronation will be held at the Fair Kickoff Banquet that evening, 7:30 p.m., in the Youth Activity Building at the Vernon County Fairgrounds, Viroqua. The public is invited to the banquet. Prepaid reservations should be made at the Extension office by July 22.
