In January, the Coon Village Board unanimously agreed to rezone the lot the village recently sold to the Coon Creek Fire Association (CCFA). The Coon Valley Village Board acted on the recommendation during its Jan. 12 regular monthly board meeting moving the CCFA one step closer in their development process of a new six-bay fire station being constructed in Coon Valley.
Also in January, CCFA chairman Orlan Bakkum presented the fire association with a tentative floor plan for the a 55-foot deep by 120-foot long building with six bays, bathrooms, laundry, utility room, and a meeting room. The CCFA board decided to review several proposals before making a final decision, but due to cost, Bakkum believes the metal-clad wood frame building is the forerunner, although the group has reviewed brick and mortar and steel frame options.
According to Bakkum, cost will be a deciding factor on the type of building selected, but many things will factor into the final decision. The group is also currently investigating its borrowing, interest and payback options for the new construction project planned for 2010. Bakkum said earlier he would like to see the new facility paid off in five years, but many factors would determine the final pay-off schedule and effect on future tax rolls.
Coon Creek Fire and Rescue, based in Coon Valley, serves residents in the villages of Coon Valley and Chaseburg, the townships of Hamburg, Coon, Washington and a portion of Greenfield. Coon Creek Fire and Rescue will remain at their current location until construction of the new building is complete
The Coon valley Village Board will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Coon Valley Village Hall meeting room.
