During a special meeting on Friday, January 29, the Westby Area School District Board of Education accepted the resignation of Special Education and Pupil Services Director Sandra Eide-Kallstrom.
In November, Eide-Kallstrom was placed on non-disciplinary administrative leave of absence pending the outcome of an investigation by the board, which was recently completed.
Eide-Kallstrom, who has been employed full time by the school district since 2008, submitted a letter of resignation on Jan. 26, 2010, effective immediately.
According to Mike Sebion, school board president, the resignation did not hinge on any other agreements, was not a contract buyout and the board followed due process of the law during the internal investigation, prior to Eide-Kallstrom’s resignation.
The resignation of Eide-Kallstrom leaves the Westby School district with an important open position, which is temporarily being overseen by School administrator Mike Murphy, with assistance and direction from CESA 4 and the state of Wisconsin Department Department of Instruction.
The position of Special Education/Pupil Services Director serves 12 percent of Westby Area School District’s student enrollment (135 students), who utilize special needs services in the district.
The Special Education/Pupil Services Director also supervises the programs of school counselors, a support staff of 13 and 12 teachers in the system who have special needs students in their classrooms.
Eide-Kallsrom replaced Chad Berg, who resigned to accepted a similar out-of-state position at the end of the 2007-08 school year.
During the Westby School Board of Education monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 8 the board will work with district administration to find a solution to the Special Education/Pupil Services Director vacancy.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the district conference room in Westby.
